The iGovPhil Project officially adopts the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) as the accessibility standard for all its related web development and services. WCAG 2.0 is also an international standard, ISO 40500. This certifies it as a stable and referenceable technical standard.

WCAG 2.0 contains 12 guidelines organized under 4 principles: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust (POUR for short). There are testable success criteria for each guideline. Compliance to these criteria is measured in three levels: A, AA, or AAA. A guide to understanding and implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 is available at: https://www.w3.org/TR/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20/

All iGovPhil Project services and content are currently moving towards WCAG Level A compliance. Work is being done to make the system fully compliant with this level.

PRC-RO XI Conducts Oral Examinations for Professional Mechanical Engineers

The Professional Regulation Commission – Regional Office XI hosted its first Oral Examination for Professional Mechanical Engineers. The 2-day examination from 25 to 26 January 2023 was the result of the favorable response from the Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) for Mechanical Engineering on the request made by the Pambansang Samahan ng Inhenyero Mekanikal (PSIM) – Davao Chapter.

Fifty-one (51) Level 2 and ten (10) Level 1 oral examinees were evaluated by Hon. Leandro A. Conti and Hon. Lorenzo P. Larion, PRB for Mechanical Engineers Chairperson and Member respectively. Most of the examinees came from Davao City and General Santos City, while some flew in from Cebu City. Strict health and safety protocols were imposed on all examinees such as submission of a copy of vaccination card, negative rt-PCR result or Certificate of Quarantine.

Director Raquel R. Abrantes, PRC RO XI Regional Director was elated that the first face-to-face oral examination of the year was held in the region and made it more accessible to examinees from Mindanao. This is in line with PRC’s thrust to deliver quality services closer to more Professionals, she further added.

The practice of mechanical engineering shall be of three (3) categories with Professional Mechanical Engineer as the highest rank. Only a registered mechanical engineer with a valid professional license and who has recorded a total of four (4) years of active mechanical engineering practice from the time of his/her registration may qualify. Moreover, the granting of a professional mechanical engineer Certificate of Registration is testimonial in nature including the submission of an enumeration of the applicant’s experience and presentation of an engineering report/technical paper.

PRC RO XI looks forward that this type of examination will be held regularly here in Davao City and encourage aspiring mechanical engineers to upgrade their ranks.
