Posted on 3 June, 2026

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Through Proclamation No. 985, Series of 1997 (Declaring the Period from June 1 to 7, 1997, and every year thereafter as “Philippine Optometry Week”, the entire nation highlights the significant weight and importance of having an accessible and people-centered eye care of each Juan and Juana.  This yearly observance underscores the invaluable role of optometrists in the campaign and promotion of healthy vision, the education of preventable eye concerns, and the assistance of productive and well-accomplished lives.

Together with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC / Commission), the Professional Regulatory Board of Optometry (PRB-OPT), professionals, Industry partners, and stakeholders synergize together in building and bringing quality vision care closer to underserved sectors and encouraging every Filipino to prioritize regular eye check-ups, we emphasize the words of Dr. George S. Chua: “Good vision is not a privilege—it is a necessity that empowers people to live, learn, and work with dignity.” Such statement mirrors the profession’s commitment to ensuring that vision care remains compassionate, inclusive, and accessible to all.

The Philippine Optometry Week serves as a reminder that eye health is an important part of everyone’s overall wellness and health. Thus, the public is encouraged to support and to actively participate in the initiatives that promote accessible eye care and recognize the contributions of the optometry profession in building healthier and more empowered and visualized communities.
