Boards of Marine Deck and Engineer Officers

The Boards of Examiners for Deck and Engineer Officers were created on January 13, 1973 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 97 also known as “The Philippine Merchant Marine Officers Law.” On March 29, 1968, the Code of Ethics for Filipino Marine Officers and Marine Engineers was approved by the President.

The present Boards of Marine Deck Officers and Marine Engineers were constituted pursuant to Republic Act No. 8544 otherwise known as “The Philippine Merchant Marine Act of 1998.” The law embodies substantial amendments to P.D. 97 in compliance with the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW ‘78) Convention to which the Philippines is a signatory.

On July 28, 1999, the Management System of the Professional Regulation Commission, after assessment, was ISO 9002 certified by the Anglo-Japanese American Environmental Quality and Safety Certification Services and registered against the requirements of Quality Management Systems Standard under Certificate No. AJA 99/1464.
